At our Technology & Application Center (TAC), we work together with you on the next generation of your coating applications.

We simulate layer stacks and their functionality, produce samples on laboratory and pilot scales, and measure and evaluate coating and substrate properties to meet diverse requirements.

As a result, you can test the coating performance of your product on relevant sample sizes in advance.

The TAC also offers you the chance to develop the product further during the time it takes to deliver the equipment. The results from the laboratory can be easily transferred to the equipment due to the similarity of the processes.

We offer several coating systems for substrates including glass, polymer film, metal strip, and silicon wafers. For initial testing we use flexible laboratory systems with smaller formats to quickly define suitable parameter windows.

As a next step, we can offer pilot runs on our in-house inline systems with larger substrates to verify compatibility with your process sequence and to perform additional investigations.

All testing follows customer specifications or DIN (German Institute for Standardization) standards for stability, corrosion resistance, adhesion strength, and chemical resistance.

  1. Our goal is to provide sample coatings on standard or customer-specific substrates for testing and evaluating suitable coating solutions for a given task.
     
  2. Additionally, we can support customers by bridging the gap between placing and order and the delivery of the chosen coating solution with our pilot-coating service.
     
  3. We can create custom setups for unique needs, such as material tests or proof-of-concept studies.

We can offer a variety of PVD and related vacuum‑coating techniques, such as magnetron sputtering, cathodic‑arc evaporation, electron beam evaporation, thermal evaporation, and plasma‑assisted CVD (PACVD).

  1. We can process substrate sheets made of glass, polymer or metal, from cupon-size up to wafer-size and glass-pane-size in-house.
     
  2. Flexible substrates, such as polymer films, metal foils, or ultra-thin glass, can be processed using equipment at our partners' sites.
     
  3. 3D parts can also be coated in our batch tools with integrated sample rotation.
  1. We can process sample sizes from 50 mm × 50 mm up to 600 mm × 1200 mm without any additional preparation. The maximum processable width for flexible materials is 600 mm.
     
  2. The number of samples or materials can be discussed individually. We can arrange coating campaigns lasting from a few days up to several weeks.

Yes, the results are a valid base to make design decisions or choose the right coating solution.

We combine extensive experience, careful work and thorough documentation. All equipment data is continuously monitored and stored. These data can be evaluated and correlated to the results to ensure rapid process optimization.

  1. We can measure most of the relevant coating parameters directly at our analytical laboratory, such as thickness, optical/electrical properties, adhesion, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, and composition (XRF).
     
  2. Further material analysis, such as photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS) or structure analysis like XRD or SEM can be performed at our partner facilities.

Depending on the test method, we can comply with common standards such as ISO, DIN, or ASTM, or follow customer‑specific specifications.

We comply with all applicable data‑security regulations and are regularly certified (see compliance). Typically, a non‑disclosure agreement (NDA) is signed to ensure confidentiality.

Yes, of course. When delivering coating equipment, training for operators and service personnel is offered and can be conducted at VON ARDENNE or at the customer’s site.

Prior to sampling and the shipment of material, you will receive a questionnaire that addresses all relevant questions.
